Elon Musk’s brain-chip company, Neuralink released a video with a macaque monkey named Pager is playing pong with his mind, while sucking on a banana smoothie as a reward. In the video, Pager moves a cursor on a computer screen with neural activity using a N1 link chip.
N1 is a fully implanted neural recording and data transmission device and it was implanted in the hand and arm areas of the part of the brain that plans and executes movements.
Neuralink in its blog post claims to be developing a brain machine interface to help people with paralysis to use neural activity to operate computers and mobile with ease.
In the blog post, Neuralink also states that the first goal is to give people with paralysis ability to communicate easily with Link. It would read signals in the brain and simulate nerves and muscles to control movement of the limbs.
Elon Musk also tweeted On Friday, “First Neuralink product will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs. Later version will be able to shunt signals from Neuralinks in brain to Neuralinks in body motor/sensory neuron clusters, enabling paraplegics to walk again.
The device is implanted flush with skull and charges wirelessly, so you look and feel totally normal.”
