Elon Musk, in his latest “leaked email”, has directed his executive staff to work from office as remote work was “no longer acceptable. The latest development, which was first reported by Bloomberg, has prompted the Tesla founder to tweet that those who think the work from office is an antiquated concept can “pretend to work somewhere else”.

Elon Musk has mentioned in his email that anyone who hoped to do remote work will have to work from the main Tesla office for a minimum of 40 hours a week while stating that this time was lesser than what they asked of factory workers. Musk also says that those who did not want to work from office were free to depart Tesla. He further added that he would review exceptional cases himself, and would approve work from home only for those exceptional cases.

Employees have also been directed to work from Tesla offices that they are needed at as opposed to remote offices located in another province. “For example, being responsible for the Fermont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state,” says the letter. His decision is being met with some amount of backlash, while some others are of the view that employees must work from office.

Similar to Tesla, several other companies are calling their employees back to office. Recently, Amazon India called their employees back to office while being cautious and enforcing measures to ensure the safety of its employees. “’WFH’ has taken on a new meaning at Amazon India as we transition slowly from ‘Work From Home’ to ‘Work From Here’,” said the company in its blogpost while stating that all measures were in place to ensure a smooth transition from home to office.
