Elon Musk sacked a large number of Twitter staff on Friday. The majority of those affected worked for Twitter's trust and safety departments. Elon Musk has been in charge of Twitter for over three months, but the firm has yet to find its footing. With considerable modifications in the platform's policies to modifying and deleting positions of staff across divisions, the turbulence at the social media platform’s headquarters persists. Musk is said to have sacked several employees in the company's Dublin and Singapore headquarters recently.

According to Bloomberg, Twitter has let go of employees from its trust and safety team, mainly responsible for global content moderation and its hate speech and harassment section. Musk's microblogging platform fired staff at its Dublin and Singapore headquarters on Friday.

Nur Azhar Bin Ayob, Twitter's Asia-Pacific region's head of site integrity, and Analuisa Dominguez, Twitter's senior director of revenue policy, are those affected. Furthermore, personnel from the platforms' departments in charge of misleading policies, worldwide appeals, and state media have been sacked.

What Type of Jobs were Terminated?

Ella Irwin, Twitter's head of trust and safety, confirmed the recent employment layoffs, saying that the business only terminated jobs that did not receive enough "volume" to justify continuing support. Meanwhile, Irwin claimed that Twitter is expanding staffing in the appeals department and would soon employ a new head of revenue policy and a head of trust and safety for the platform's Asia-Pacific region.

Significantly, if we look at a rough estimate of how many staff Twitter has dismissed since Musk took over, the statistics show that about 70% of former Twitter employees have been let go. Twitter has presided over the dismissal or departure of around 5,000 of its 7,500 workers.

It’s Not Just Twitter: Layoffs at Amazon and Salesforce

Apart from Twitter, Amazon and Salesforce have also fired employees from their respective companies. While amazon has let go of nearly 18,000 of its staff, Salesforce announced that its workforce would be reduced by 10 percent. One of the common reasons being shared by the companies is that they have had to fire employees as they hired across various roles “two quickly” over the past two years and would now also have to be mindful of the unfavourable conditions that are looming globally.
