No doubt, this is an exciting time to be in the electronics industry, especially in India. Speaking at CDNLive! India 2012, Jaswinder Ahuja, corporate VP and MD of Cadence Design Systems said that the Indian government is recognising the electronics industry as a strategic sector and its eco-system.

From a business perspective, the industry looks bullish, and the semiconductor industry in the country alone is expected to touch $300 to $400 billion shortly. "There is a definite growth and a lot of innovations are coming from private entrepreneurs," said Saugat Sen, VP R&D at Cadence Design Systems. He added, "Some of the key market trends which are driving this growth is the growing popularity of applications, video, mobility and cloud. Applications are driving a lot of complexity, and mobility is pervasive in our lives today. In fact, mobile phones and tablets are being accepted easily by the elderly and children as it isn't as overwhelming as a desktop." There's an interesting trivia we noticed in his presentation - About 45% of network is driven by video and this figure is expected grow by 70%.

However, the way is not all clear for the industry. As technology evolves and gives way to a better connected world, there are new challenges the electronics industry faces with sophisticated advanced design. Some amendments were suggested by Ahuja. "Several pieces of the eco-system are present in India, but are scattered. There is no comprehensive eco-system that can be connected with dots. There is a need for a starting point to boot that eco-system, and is should start with the end-user. The industry should study requirements and build the solutions accordingly," revealed Ahuja.
