On the occasion of completing 8 very successful years Abhimanyu Lal, head, category management, eBay India said, "With the passage of time, the marketplace has become competitive and this competition is making it the best time to be in the market. It also offers us the advantage to innovate as almost 100% of our business is derived from SMEs. From 2010, there has been 30% in the market business.
Internet has become the medium to create awareness for our product. When competition enters in the marketplace more people come online and we welcome this competition. As far as our strategy is concerned, we intend to expand our market reach and make people aware and try online shopping. We have also launched 'Powership' to cater to the needs of logistics and better consumer experience."
Speaking about the marketplace, Lal further added, "There are other certain websites that offer the cash on delivery benefit which we term as inefficient as there can be a lot of leakage. It also allows the buyer to change his mind on a particular purchase. At times, the buyer may not be at home when there is going to be an expected delivery of the purchase. The issue is around trust. In relation to segments that do not have an effective mode of payment, cash on delivery systems works better."
