Data Security Council of India (DSCI), set up by NASSCOM, announced the launch of ‘DSCI Lead Assessor for Privacy' Training and Certification Program under its Thought Leadership initiative.
The training program is an important component of theprivacy assessment ecosystem which DSCI is trying to establish around its Privacy Assessment Framework (DAF©).
The aim of the ecosystem is to enable third party assessments of service and user organizations based on DSCI Privacy Framework (DPF©) leading to DSCI Privacy Certification. DSCI plans to soon accreditate assessing agencies who would conduct the third party assessments of organizationsthat have implemented a privacy program and meet the requirements of DPF©.
DSCI certified Lead Assessors who are also the employees of the accredited assessing organizations, would be authorized to conduct the third party assessments.
DSCI will be the first organization in the world to certify organizations in the data privacy domain.
With the growing economic value of personal information, Privacy is emerging as a distinct and
important organizational function requiring management attention. This initiative undertaken by DSCI is
aimed at increasing the maturity level of privacy practices in the industry which would provide
assurance to clients, consumers, citizens, regulators and governments worldwide.
DSCI commenced the program with first batch scheduled from 5th June - 7
th June in Delhi.
The 21 participants of this batch ranged from consulting organizations, and assessment agencies to the user
organizations. This program aims at helping assessors understand the practical aspects of privacy
implementation, and provide a robust guidance to conduct third party assessments and selfassessments. It is also aimed at helping user organizations better understand the expectation of privacy
implementation, and requirements for DSCI Privacy Certification.
On the occasion of the launch Dr. Kamlesh Bajaj, CEO, DSCI discussed the journey of DSCI onto this stage
and highlighted that privacy protection is a key focus area at DSCI together with cyber security and data
security. While launching the program he said "I am extremely glad to announce the launch of the ‘DSCI
Lead Assessor for Privacy' training & certification program. This marks the beginning of a new chapter
for DSCI as well as the entire industry." He also added "Privacy function is emerging out of the wings of
security function and one would see it as an independent function much the same way security emerged
out of the IT operations."
Dr. Bajaj also while commending DSCI Assessment Frameworks said "The security and the privacy
practitioners who have been looking at achieving privacy in their organization will be greatly benefited
with the privacy assessment. The adoption of DSCI Privacy Assessment Frameworks (DAF©) will enable
organizations enhance maturity of their privacy program. Our intent has been to create the framework
that helps organizations build mature privacy practices which in turn would also help them attain
compliance against various privacy related legislations and regulations."
The next training batch is scheduled from 26th-28th June'13 in Delhi.
