Shakuntala, Megdhoot, Valmiki Ramayana,
Upanishads...just some of the epics that your children may not be able to read,
as these texts will disappear one day. But preserving these in electronic format
could be a solution...
l What
is DPS’ role in preserving ancient texts?
Some of the historic epics and books, though rich in culture, might depreciate
by the years and disappear one day. Digital Publishing Solutions (DPS) is trying
to restore such books by converting the content into electronic format using
archival as well as artistic techniques. DPS was founded in 2001 as a specialist
content processing and application development company. It is a Hong Kong based
corporation with subsidiaries in India and Singapore. DPS also works with
corporates for cleaning old books, photographs, manuscripts etc using DX
Publishing Suite technology framework. The market potential is large, but
presently, there is a select segment of the population interested in preserving
old texts. Any conscious Indian, who appreciates what Digital Publishing
technology is about, can be the customer.

Key sources of revenue are people who own the publication strategy as well as
through the sale of tools and technologies to third parties. Among our clients
in India are the Times of India, Mumbai, Indian National Science Academy (INSA),
New Delhi and IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute for digital curation
of their old books. On the global front, DPS has been providing comprehensive
production and e-Publishing technology solutions to Taylor & Francis,
Cambridge University Press, Pearson, Addison Wesley Longman, and National
Academy Press.
l What
are your expansion plans?
Demand for quality processing of content into XML and other formats has already
outpaced global capacity. Recognizing the adaptation of XML as the industry
standard for content creation and storage, DPS has a defined set of XML driven
products and services, based on the business proposition of supporting publisher
requirements from content conversion to online selling, and every aspect of the
e-Publishing value chain. We also provide the service called Dx DAMS-Digital
Asset Management Solutions by which files can be maintained in a typical
publishing environment. We provide tools to publishers to distribute the
content.
