The highly awaited Union Budget 2022 was presented in the parliament on 1 February 2022. The budget was especially an event that the IT industry was looking forward to considering the fact that was being announced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has infused a lot of stress into the IT industry. A lot was being expected in terms of push to digitisation, creation of jobs and moderation in taxes. However, were these expectations met? To answer that and more, Arun S Prabhu, Partner (Head-TMT) Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas recently spoke to Dataquest.

Arun is an expert when it comes to matters related to data protection and privacy including issues surrounding data collection, processing, data mining), protection and retention, in addition to the formulation of policies and best practices designed to mitigate the legal risks associated with handling of data. He has advised several Indian and overseas clients on various issues relating to digital banking.

Furthermore, He writes, speaks, comments and consults with various industry and government bodies in relation to developments in the rapidly evolving financial technology and data protection space in India including the Right to Privacy and Aadhaar judgements, Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018, collection of financial information and Aadhaar information for conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, and notifications and guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
