The year 2006 ended with the visit to India by Cisco CEO John Chambers. But
the year 2007 till now has been the year of CEO visits. With more than fifteen
CEOs of global companies in less than five months, this was probably a record of
sorts. India has been on global companies' radar for quite some time, but a look
at the profiles of companies whose CEOs came calling India gives some
indication. Visiting CEOs were from across the IT, BPO, and telecom industry
ranging from semiconductor to software companies and services companies like
Freescale, NXP and Texas Instruments. Unfortunately, Cadence CEO Mike Fister had
to cancel his visit due to some personal reasons. Visits by CEOs of leading
semicon companies are a pointer to the emergence of India as a semicon hub in
the long run. It is no co-incidence that the new semiconductor policy was
announced recently.
