Last fiscal was spectacular for Dell, which saw very good growth in its PC
and server offerings: servers saw an impressive 72% growth in unit terms,
according to DQ estimates, and portable volumes soared to 23,300 in FY 2004-05
as compared to 4,500 the previous year. Dell pitched its key notebook models,
Latitude and Inspiron series, at the high- and the mid-end segments. On the
Desktop side, its Optiplex series of small form factor machines made a dent into
the Sub-20K to 30K price points. The company's strategy on bulk orders and
competitive pricing of its desktops enabled it to garner mandates from segments
like BFSI and BPO. Got top rank in terms of overall product and post sales
support in the DQ-IDC Customer Satisfaction Audit 2005. Dell strongly believes
that its direct model will be a success in India too, with PC penetration on the
rise, and affordable, always-on, broadband Internet connectivity becoming a
reality.
