Delhi University (DU) is considering instituting an exceptional moderation of up to ten points for students who need help to complete their degree due to a single paper failure. The issue will be discussed during Thursday's university's Academic Council meeting. This relief will be awarded to students with genuine reasons for failing the paper.

This option will be available exclusively to students who have completed all course requirements except for one paper. The 10-point moderation will be imposed in addition to any grace marks already applied.

Students who have already failed the paper through the university's "special chance examinations" may be subjected to the 10-mark provision. "The situation becomes complicated for students who have completed all course requirements except for a single paper due to unforeseen circumstances." In such instances, the university may consider awarding exceptional moderation for a single left-over paper," according to the Academic Council meeting agenda.

Delhi University is also contemplating granting students who have over their time restriction a unique opportunity to appear in the remaining papers necessary to obtain the degree. This opportunity, however, will only be available to students who have used all their time slots to take these extra exams in 2021-22 and 2022-23. Delhi University gives students six years to complete all course prerequisites for the degree, beginning with the year of admission.

The university has recommended the formation of a committee to review requests from students who have surpassed their time limit. This issue will also be considered during today's Academic Council meeting. DU is also considering a special chance provision for students during the Covid-19 epidemic. "The Covid-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges such as remote learning, limited access to resources, and health-related concerns." According to the institution, these conditions harmed students' academic advancement, making it unreasonable to condemn them for issues beyond their control.

Conclusion

The special moderation scheme will apply to students in their final semester who have yet to be able to secure the required marks in a particular subject. Under this scheme, students will be awarded an additional 10 marks in the subject, enabling them to meet the passing criteria and obtain their degree.

This decision has been welcomed by students and faculty alike, who have lauded it as a step in the right direction to support students during these challenging times. The moderation scheme is expected to benefit many students on the verge of completing their degrees but facing difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances.
