Fortinet has launched what it calls the industry's first complete security framework designed specifically for AI data centers. The new Secure AI Data Center solution, announced, secures the entire AI stack, from data pipelines and applications to large language models (LLMs) and underlying GPU clusters, without compromising performance or energy efficiency.
At the center of this rollout is the FortiGate 3800G, a high-throughput, ASIC-powered firewall offering up to 800 Gbps of firewall performance, 200 million concurrent sessions, and energy consumption that is up to 69% lower than traditional firewall systems.
“AI data centers demand both massive performance and deep protection,” said Nirav Shah, Senior Vice President of Products and Solutions at Fortinet. “Our Secure AI Data Center solution unifies those capabilities so organizations can scale AI without compromising security, performance, or efficiency.”
Addressing the growing risks in AI infrastructure
AI systems, especially those powered by LLMs, are increasingly targeted by novel attack vectors, including prompt injection, data exfiltration, and misuse of model outputs. As enterprises race to deploy AI across their operations, security has become a growing concern.
Fortinet’s Secure AI Data Center tackles this challenge by embedding multiple layers of protection across six key pillars:
Hyperscale performance with lower energy costs: The 3800G uses custom-built NP7 and SP5 ASICs to deliver high throughput with reduced power draw—cutting infrastructure costs and carbon footprints.
Model and API protection: Advanced input-output filtering ensures malicious prompts or unauthorized queries don’t exploit or expose sensitive LLMs.
Real-time GPU-cluster security: High-density GPU clusters, the backbone of modern AI workloads, are protected without lag or bottlenecks.
Unified policy control: Fortinet’s Security Fabric brings together firewalls, app security, and AI runtime protections under one management layer, simplifying compliance and operations.
Quantum-resistant encryption: Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD) are included to secure sensitive model data from future quantum threats.
Granular traffic inspection: Each API call or data exchange is analyzed and sanitized, protecting both upstream and downstream processes from injection or tampering.
FortiGate 3800G: High specs for high-stakes AI
The new FortiGate 3800G claims an industry-leading Security Compute Rating, significantly outperforming peers like Palo Alto’s PA-5550 and Check Point’s 29100. It delivers:
| Metric | FortiGate 3800G | Palo Alto PA-5550 | Check Point 29100 | Cisco 4245 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Firewall Throughput | 800 Gbps | 240 Gbps | 175 Gbps | 365 Gbps |
| Threat Protection | 200 Gbps | 90 Gbps | 120 Gbps | 60 Gbps |
| IPsec VPN | 210 Gbps | 96.3 Gbps | 100 Gbps | 103 Gbps |
| Concurrent Sessions | 200 million | 42.3 million | 49 million | 30 million |
These numbers are supported by Fortinet’s proprietary ASIC architecture, a key differentiator in enabling high performance without software-defined compromises.
Enterprises ready to scale AI securely
For organizations navigating the shift from experimentation to deployment, Fortinet’s solution promises a scalable approach to AI security—without the overhead of patchwork controls or inconsistent integrations.
“AI is transforming every aspect of our business,” said Huy Ly, Head of Global IT Security at Monolithic Power Systems. “With the Fortinet Secure AI Data Center solution, we can safeguard sensitive models and data while maintaining hyperscale throughput with greater efficiency and cost performance.”
The announcement reinforces Fortinet’s long-standing strategy of building security into the foundation of modern IT architectures. Now, it extends that foundation to meet the compute-heavy and privacy-sensitive requirements of the AI age.
