Adobe AI continues its rapid evolution with the introduction of advanced artificial intelligence features in Photoshop. The headline innovation is the new Harmonise tool, which leverages Adobe Firefly Image models to automatically blend objects into images with a single click. Match the surrounding areas and automatically consolidate on colour, lighting, shadows and tone and allows one to achieve realistic composing and they can save hours of editing manually by the professionals and the amateurs.
Generative upscale boosts features with Adobe AI
Another major update is the Generative Upscale tool, now available in beta. One can sharpen any picture only up to the resolution of 8-megapixels without blurry effects and distortion. It is powered by GAN-based AI algorithms, and responds to one of the most requested features made by the Photoshop community to have high-quality upscaling available to professionals that deal with older or low-resolution images. Glyn Dewis (Adobe Certified Instructor) posted “Generative Upscale is a revelation for restoration specialists. We can revive precious old images with a single click—this is the new gold standard for professional photo editors.” on LinkedIn.
The Harmonise tool is one of the most impactful innovations in the 2025 Photoshop update. Using the latest Adobe Firefly Image models, Harmonise can blend a pasted or composited object into any image background automatically. It immediately synchronises colour, light, shadow and tone with the environment making obsolete what could be otherwise hours of manual work by photographers, designers and digital artists. It enables people who formerly took a considerable amount of time to perfect composited images to now be able to attain professional-quality realism in just a few seconds with the help of automation. On X Scott Belsky (Chief Strategy Officer, Adobe) posted “With Firefly-powered features like Harmonise and Generative Upscale, Photoshop is eliminating technical friction. The future of creativity is about ideas, not tool mastery.”
The Remove tool in Photoshop is improved to a great extent with the new models in Firefly Images. When removing unwanted objects, the tool now produces realistic content to fill the gap, creating even more realistic edits. The enhanced Remove is possible in the desktop version of Photoshop, as well as the web version.
To enhance team workflows, Adobe has activated the Projects feature in beta of Photoshop desktop. Users can now package up and distribute whole sets of design assets, making the work of collaborating and managing versions a breeze--perfect to keep track of larger, multi-asset campaigns in agencies and in-studio.
Further on, advanced users have a dropdown menu in the Gen AI Model Picker on the Photoshop desktop version which lets them choose between different Firefly Image models, including Firefly Image 1 or Firefly Image 3 when using AI-powered features like Generative Fill and Generative Expand. This enables them to optimise how they use AI to create.
In addition to AI technology features, Adobe also added the Projects feature in beta on Photoshop desktop. Projects simplify the way design professionals collaborate and manage pieces by facilitating the ability to share whole collections of assets together.
Future outlook
With these updates, Adobe AI is positioning Photoshop as the leader in intelligent image editing, offering users cutting-edge tools that dramatically ease complex workflows and empower creativity like never before. The recent AI abilities developed by Adobe are changing the industry standard and are giving less emphasis on technical limits and more of the understanding of providing creativity to all people.
