Cyber Monday comes to India

Google India announced today that it has partnered with many e-commerce players including Flipkart, Snapdeal, Myntr, Zovi and makemy trip to create and Indian version of 'Cyber Monday' on December 12. displays a countdown to 12.12.12.

On Cyber Monday, online shoppers can log on to The Great Online Shopping Festival website, i.e. www.gosf.in and get deals for 24 hours from over 50 partners across e-commerce, online travel and BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) industries, a Google statement says.

The products on offer will include jewelery, shoes, apparel, travel packages, books, kids wear, gadgets, watches, computer accessories, health and fitness equipment, home decor products and deals on real estate.

The site already displays a countdown and gives a list of players they are partnering with. The participating companies will also offer special deals to first-time buyers on their websites. Apart from lining up deals, buyers will also get free shipping across India and learn more about online shopping, various methods of payments and how safe and convenient it is to shop online.

Cyber Monday is the Monday following Thanksgiving in the US when many people buy a lot of things online. With over 137 million Internet users in the country, India is witnessing a growth in online activity and this is the first time an industry-wide initiative of this scale is being attempted to offer users across the country an incentive to gain from deals that they can find on the web on a single day.
