New Board Exam Pattern:

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new exam pattern for classes 10 and 12. The new pattern will focus on competency-based education and have a 30% weightage for objective-type questions. The remaining 70% weightage will be for subjective-type questions.

NCERT Deletions:

The NCERT has decided to delete specific chapters from the school textbooks. The decision has been taken to reduce the burden on students and to make the texts more relevant to the current times. The deleted chapters include topics such as democracy, federalism, and citizenship. Since the NDA administration assumed office in 2014, NCERT has produced new social science textbooks with the most significant revisions. The new books contain:

  • No allusions to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
  • No text on the Mughal era or the caste system.
  • No chapters on demonstrations or social movements.

Officials claim that these changes result from a 'rationalisation' exercise carried out last year by the National Council of Educational Research and Training(NCERT) to reduce the curriculum load and help students make a 'rapid recovery' from learning setbacks caused by Covid. The Indian Express initially disclosed these modifications in a three-part piece published from 18 June to 20 last year.

CUET UG Application:

The Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUET) application process for undergraduate courses has begun. The Central University of Rajasthan will conduct the exam; the last date to apply is 16 May 2023. The exam is scheduled on 19 June and 20 June 2023.
