CoWIN registration is now being allowed for children above 12 years of age as they have been declared eligible to receive vaccinations

CoWIN registration for children above 12 years of age has now begun. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, has just tweeted about the development while encouraging the children to register and receive their vaccinations. “Today is an important day in India’s efforts to vaccinate our citizens. Now onwards, youngsters in the 12-14 age group are eligible for vaccines and all those above 60 are eligible for precaution doses. I urge people in these age groups to get vaccinated,” he said.

Earlier this year, the vaccination drive was opened up for children in the age gap of 15 to 18 years. “In March 2021, vaccination was opened to those above 60 and those over 45 with co-morbidities. Later, the vaccination opened for all those above 18. It should make every Indian proud that the vaccines are free of cost for those who want it,” added the prime minister. He also said that India has administered over 180 crore doses, which includes over 9 crore doses in age group of 15-17 and over 2 crore precaution doses. 

Process for CoWIN Registration

Here’s how citizens of the country can register on CoWIN to schedule their vaccination:

  • Click on the self registration option on the CoWIN portal.
  • Sign for vaccination by entering phone number.
  • The website will then send an OTP, which needs to be verified.Tap on Register for the vaccine. 
  • Select photo ID proof, which can be only Aadhar Card considering the age group that us 12 to 15 years.
  • Enter the Photo ID number, select name and specify gender and mention year of birth.
  • Tap on register.

The children of the age group can then chose a slot at the nearest available hospital or health centre. “Today, India has many ‘Made in India’ vaccines. We have also granted approval to other vaccines after a due process of evaluation. We are in a much better position to fight this deadly pandemic. At the same time, we have to keep following all COVID related precautions,” said Modi.
