CoWin app for COVID-19 vaccine registration in India has still not been made available to all citizens of India, or for all citizens over 50 years of age contrary to the claims being made in some WhatsApp messages. The Government of India through PIB Fact check has debunked these claims, and has clarified that the WhatsApp message being circulated is fake.

“A WhatsApp message claims that the inoculation registration on the CowinApp will open in February for citizens aged above 50. PIBFactCheck: This claim is Fake. No such decision has been taken by the Government. Conclusion: FAKE,” says the official handle of PIB Fact Check on the viral WhatsApp message, which is being widely circulated.

The WhatsApp message says: “There is talk that registration for inoculation will open for 50+ age group citizens. Please keep watching the CoWin site and app linked below. As yet both are only open for viewing and login by vaccinators. But the option to register could pop up sometime after February 15. When it does, you can register with your PAN card number and other details as required. You will be able to opt for the hospital most convenient to you. Once accepted, you will get an SMS confirming your registration with a 14-digit registration number. In due course after that, you will get another SMS giving you a date and time for vaccination at the hospital you opted for. If you are particular about which vaccine you would like to take, please check with the hospital of your choice about which one they are alloted.”

Citizens need to b aware that there is no self-registration option available as of now on the CoWin app, and all information regarding the same will be disbursed through only official Government of India social media handles, and the Press Information Bureau.
