Artificial intelligence has become an important tool in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the technology is existing diagnostic methods not only improves accuracy of results, but can also be an affordable alternative to antiquated technology. Along the same lines, Vitti AI, in collaboration with Xvizn, has introduced COVIZN, an artificial intelligence based screening software for COVID-19. The software has been developed in association with IIIT Bhagalpur, and the institution is working on improving the accuracy to 98 percent. Apart from that, IIIT Bhagalpur also hopes to broaden the feature base of software to related lung diseases.
COVIZN, its developers say, provides an affordable and rapid screening solution for COVID-19 cases through artificial intelligence based analysis of patient X-ray. The software has been validates by RML, Delhi and AIIMs, Patna, and the results reported in the field trail of these centrally funded government hospitals reported an average sensitivity and specificity of 93.26% and 91.93%, respectively. The cost of diagnosis of COVID-19 using COVIZN would be around Rs 300 as compared to RT-PCR that costs Rs 1200. Also, artificial intelligence based screening software can determine results in a matter of seconds.
Benefits of Using Artificial Intelligence based Screening Software COVIZN
- The software helps in ascertaining the severity of the COVID infection in lungs thus helping doctors or hospital administrators to classify the confirmed COVID patients for ICU beds, wards, admission or home isolation.
- The software will reduce the burden of RT-PCRs and will also reduce the cost of initial screening of patients.
- The software can be employed for symptomatic patients.
- The software can be deployed at remote locations where RT-PCR is a not available.
- Since the software works on general-purpose computer, it will be easy to deploy at places where X-ray machines are available and qualified specialists are not available.
- The software works on mobile app-based and desktop software, and can also be deployed on cloud.
- The software takes digital X-ray JPEG, PNG, BMP and other image formats except DICOM.
- Internet access is not required for the software, and it will work on standalone PC; however, access to internet is required for cloud-based and IP-based solutions.
