McAfee to Invest $80 mn
McAfee will invest $80 mn over the next four years towards expanding
its research and development center in Bangalore. The company also plans to
increase its headcount in India to 1,000 employees from the current strength of
600 employees, by the end of 2008.
Investment by eInfochips
Having set its sights on the Japanese market, Ahmedabad-based
eInfochips is planning to expand its India operations. The company is planning
to set up campuses in Ahmedabad and Pune and invest $8 mn to $10 mn in the next
three years. eInfochips is also looking towards increasing its headcount to more
than 1,000 employees by 2008 with 700 engineers in Ahmedabad and 300 in Pune.
Innovation Center at Pune
Symantec has inaugurated its new research and development center at
Baner in Pune. According to a Symantec press statement, “The expansion work
would be done in two phases.”
Virtusa Expands
Owing to an increase in business and the need to bolster its product
delivery, software development provider Virtusa is on a massive recruitment and
expansion mode in India. Through this exercise the company plans to emerge as
leaders in the financial and telecommunication domains.
Arexera to Expand
Arexera Information Technologies, the wholly owned subsidiary of
Aftek Infosys, is focusing on Pune as the center for having its prime research
and development facility in the coming months. The R&D center would be
housed at Hinjewadi. Simon Khosla, COO of AIT GmbH said that the Indian version
of the search engine Seekport would be launched in India by the end of this
calendar year. Cognizant Opens SAP NetWeaver Test Center
IT services provider Cognizant has announced the opening of
an SAP NetWeaver Test Center at its techno-complex in Bangalore. Cognizant is
making increased investments in SAP solutions to help customers realize the full
potential of SAP's Enterprise Services Architecture based on the SAP NetWeaver
platform.
Servion Expands Operations
Servion Global Solutions has announced its strategic expansion plans.
The company has expanded to a new facility in the IT corridor at Taramani,
Chennai, to house its increasing employee strength. It has also expanded its
operations in Princeton, New Jersey and Silicon Valley, California to support
larger and complex customer projects. The expansion will also envisage the
company ramping up its headcount by over 100 in the next quarter.
Infinera Rewrites Record
Infinera has successfully completed a lab demonstration of a
large-scale photonic integrated circuit (PIC) capable of carrying data at a rate
of 1.6 Terabits per second (Tb/s). “This is the highest data rate yet achieved
for a single PIC,” Infinera said in a statement. Photonic integration is a key
technology for enabling optical networks to scale to carry Internet traffic as
Internet bandwidth continues to grow at double- and triple-digit rates. At a
data rate of 1.6 Tb/s (1.6 tn bits per second), this single chip would be
capable of transmitting simultaneously more than 50 mn Internet telephone calls,
or 160,000 high-definition television broadcasts.
RSA to Open Product Development
Center
RSA security has announced its plans to open a dedicated development
center in Bangalore. RSA already has a product development tie-up with HCL
Technologies for the last seven years. HCL's team of 120 engineers in Chennai
work on developing RSA's solutions like credential provisioning, identity and
access management, and authentication. Outlining the company's India plans,
the company's release said that RSA would invest $2.4 mn into the Bangalore
center, which will house hundred employees by December 2006. The company's
Bangalore center would handle software development, quality assurance and
technical documentation.
Infosys, Andhra Pradesh Sign MoU
Infosys Technologies has announced that it wishes to expand its
presence in Hyderabad in 550 acres of land. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has
already identified 150 acres for Infosys and the balance of 400 acres will be
identified in the near future. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this
effect was signed with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the presence of Chief
Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr YS Rajashekara Reddy. NR Narayana Murthy chairman
and chief mentor and T V Mohandas Pai, chief financial officer and director
(Finance and Administration) represented Infosys Technologies. “We are happy
to announce our expansion plans in Hyderabad. The state has a healthy investment
climate and the Government has been very supportive. We intend to invest Rs
1,250 crore in the next 10 years to create a new state-of-the-art campus in
Hyderabad,” said Murthy.
Wipro to Expand in AP
Wipro is planning to expand its operations in Andhra Pradesh. The
Bangalore-based company plans to invest around Rs 950 crore in the state and
provide employment for 28,500 IT professionals.
Red Hat's Q4 Results
Red Hat has announced financial results for its fiscal fourth quarter
and fiscal year ended February 28, 2006. Total revenue for the quarter was $78.7
mn, an increase of 37% from the year ago quarter and 8% from the prior quarter.
For the full year, total revenue was $278.3 mn, an increase of 42% over fiscal
2005 revenue, and subscription revenue was $230.4 mn, up 53% from the prior
year. For the full year, net income rose 75% to $79.7 mn over the prior fiscal
year.
Metropolis to Apply ERP
Metropolis Health Services, a corporate chain of diagnostic centers,
is planning to connect all its centers for better functioning and coordination.
It is in the process of implementing an enterprise resource planning (ERP)
application across all its centers. It comprises SAP and laboratory information
management solution (LIMS) and is expected to go live by September 2006.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) is the solution provider and implementation partner
for the project.

MeritTrac Assessment Zone, its new concept of an integrated facility for
assessments-led recruitment is open for corporates in Bangalore. The Bangalore
Assessment Zone was formally inaugurated by Dr K Balaveera Reddy,
