Coronavirus Vaccination Appointments can Now Be Booked through WhatsApp, Here’s How

The Indian Government will now allow citizens to book their Coronavirus vaccination appointments through WhatsApp using MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk

The Coronavirus vaccination appointments can henceforth be booked through mobile phones using WhatsApp though a simple process. The Indian Government has introduced a facility using which citizens can book their appointments through the MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk using WhatsApp. This new development has been announced by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.

Until now, citizens could register for the vaccine only through CoWIN, Aarogya Setu, or Umang app. Citizens would have to register with their government-issued identity cards to book their Coronavirus vaccination appointments. Now book your slot on WhatsApp and get vaccinated. Send 'Book Slot' to MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk and verify OTP,” said Vaishnaw.

How to Book Coronavirus Vaccination Appointments through WhatsApp

Candidates who are eligible to receive the vaccinations will first have to save the MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk number, which is +91 9013151515 on their mobile phones. After that, the steps mentioned below will have to be followed:

  • Send ‘Book Slot’ to MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk number through WhatsApp.
  • A six digit OTP will be sent through SMS to the concerned number.
  • Beneficiaries will have to enter the OTP received on the WhatsApp chat window.
  • Candidates can then choose their preferred date, location, pin code and vaccination type.
  • Beneficiaries will then receive a confirmation on their vaccination.

How to Get COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate from WhatsApp

The Indian Government recently also a new facility wherein citizens can access their COVID-19 vaccination certificate by simply sending a message on WhatsApp through their phone numbers that are registered with CoWIN. For this process to be successful, citizens will have to ensure that they use the same numbers that is registered with the CoWIN platform for vaccination:

  • Users will first have to save the contact number +91 9013151515, which is the MyGov Corona helpdesk number, on their mobile phones.
  • Citizens will then have to type and send ‘covid certificate’ on WhatsApp.
  • They will then receive a message that says generating an OTP for the number 9XXXXXXXXXX.
  • Citizens will then receive an OTP from CoWIN, which will have to be entered in the WhatsApp chat box within 30 seconds.
  • A message that says “We’re confirming your OTP, this may take up to 30 seconds.”
  • After that, users will be given the names of the members registered with the number, and they will be asked to Type 1-4 to select a member for downloading Cowin Certificate.
  • The COVID-19 vaccination certificate will then be sent in pdf format.
