What are the key trends in the cloud computing space?
Cloud offers an alternative to the current hardware and software solutions
available in enterprises. We have seen a strong positive reaction from companies
such as Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Dell regarding the importance of adopting
cloud services. Enterprises have begun to realize the benefits of implementing,
developing, and managing delivery of cost effective and automated applications
through on-demand cloud computing ecosystems globally.
Should enterprises go for the cloud computing model?
The obvious attractiveness of the cloud is the efficiency in processes and
reduction of cost. From a financial perspective, we feel that licensing issues
of software and updating of software will also be solved since this is a major
area of concern for any CIO of an organization. The IET would bring IT industry
leaders together and address the problems in cloud computing.
What are the challenges associated with cloud computing services?
The first challenge will be the cultural change, especially training the
users over cloud. The role of a CIO (if they go for a cloud model) will shift
from do we have software and kits (in a physical sense) to what are the legal
frameworks and whether the systems will work fast.
Can smaller and mid-sized businesses also benefit from cloud computing?
If the solution is available in the cloud, there is a real potential for
efficiencies. Market in India is still cautious about adopting cloud models in
their IT businesses. We think that even in the IT and ITeS sector, most of the
IT professionals do not have a good understanding about the ground realities of
cloud computing.
What are the legal implications surrounding cloud computing?
There is a natural concern when data is being hosted on the cloud, and that
data has to be legally protected and not shared. Going forward, IET would make
constant efforts to address the legal implications in cloud.
How important is it to demonstrate the benefits of cloud computing?
By making IT professionals aware about the tangible benefits they can reap
from deploying cloud services, they can increase efficiencies and reduce costs.
Companies that are traditionally at the forefront of IT are more likely to adopt
cloud services. In the future, telecom, BFSI, retail, and healthcare verticals
would also be interested to deploy cloud solutions in their infrastructure. That
is why IET believes that cloud will get recognition from differnt enterprises,
verticals, and government globally.
