It seems like software companies won't sleep in peace until there is some clarity on the Immigration Bill. IT companies are now discussing contingency plans with clients in case the Immigration Bill is passed by the US Senate and before the House of Representatives without any changes. If that happens, the proposed law will have a huge impact on the way India's $100 bn IT industry works. One of the direct impacts would be higher visa costs and increase in wages for H-1B visa holders.
Clients do understand that the reforms are an industry issue. and requires a joint action plan between the client and the IT service provider.
Infosys CEO SD Shibulal was quoted in The Hindu Business Line saying Infosys is creating contingency plans with clients. The report further states TCS' CEO N Chandrasekharan saying the company too is engaged in similar processes as it closely tracks changes and work on various scenarios that could arise, like wage increase, local hiring or a combination of the resource pool.
