To meet the ever-increasing demand for skilled professionals in the BPO
industry, the Chandigarh administration is planning a new initiative called
C-TOSS (Chandigarh-Training on Soft Skills) under its ITeS policy. C-TOSS will
have training programs aimed at potential BPO employees. Beginning in August,
the training modules will be of different durations and would cover
communication skills, interaction skills and other industry specific skills. The
modules will be developed in association with major training companies.
To create awareness of these training programs, the administration will
conduct seminars in colleges, wherein industry professionals would present
insights into the industry and its career prospects.
The objective is to train at least 30% of school graduating population with
adequate soft-skills to support the ITeS industry by 2006. This implies that out
of approximately 10,000 senior secondary school graduates every year, about
3,000 would be trained to work in ITES/BPO companies.
