CBSE Exams 2020: Postpone Examinations say Parents and Students, CBSE Responds

CBSE exams 2020, which are scheduled to be held from 1 to 15 July 2020, is all set to be conducted by schools across the country. While State Governments and the respective schools are taking all the necessary steps to successfully conduct the examinations as required, a section of students and parents have been demanding for cancellation of exams on social media platforms.

With Unlock 1 now effectively in place in India, and the rising number of COVID-19 cases, several people have raised concerns. “Is conducting exams more important to the CBSE than our lives? Please it’s a request not to put out lives on stake,” says Saluja Naman on Twitter.

“Respected sir, As you are well aware of the current situation, kindly cancel the CBSE Board Exams 2020 or do any other alternative. Please don't keep us in this confusion. We are very much stressed. Kindly bring some clarification in this regard. Thank you,” says Jai.

“According to AIIMS reports the corona pandemic will be touching its peak during July and we can see the signs with 10k+ cases everyday so please cancel all the exams as life is more precious than any other thing,” says Pranav Aggarwal among many others. Parents and students have also been trending #StudentLivesMatter and #HealthOverExams from the past few days.

Others have also been demanding online exams, and also the promotion of students on the basis of previous year’s marks. “Exams for class 10 & 12 also entrance exam should not be held, instead students should be promoted on the basis of their previous year marks and college admission should be based on school grades,” says on such tweet.

“Exams are not important; student life is! If any student gets infected and dies, who will take the responsibility? ONLINE; Open Book Exam is the best method, it should be encouraged, rather than offline exams,” tweets the same account called It’s Simple.

Will CBSE Exams 2020 be Postponed?

CBSE, however, has responded to all concerns saying “Board takes the decision for the overall interest of all the stakeholders. At this stage, hypothetical or apprehensions should not be raised.” The official account of the Central Board of Secondary Education has also stated that all guidelines for precautionary measures will be followed.

“Direction issued by the Government of India for the conduct of the examination shall be followed. Board has issued guidelines for precautionary measures as per the direction of Government of India,” says CBSE HQ in its tweet. CBSE exams 2020, which were initially supposed to be held in March, were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. The new dates for conducting the examinations were announced by the Minister of Human Resource Development recently.
