CBSE Board Exam 2021

CBSE class 9 and 11 exams will be held offline in several schools across the country, according to students who claim they have received their date sheets to write the examinations. However, students of Delhi Government schools who are in classes 8 and below can now breathe a sigh of relief as no examinations will be held for them. According to a circular issued by the Department of Education (DoE), students in classes 8 and below will be evaluated on the basis of projects and assignments.

“Since no classroom teaching-learning has taken place at the primary and middle level, the formal mode of pen and paper assessment is replaced by assessment based on subject-wise assignment project for Classes 3-8 for all government and government aided schools,” said the DoE in a circular. While this news has been welcomes by students and the parents of children who are in classes 8 and below, others have been questioning as to why a similar decision has not been taken with regard to CBSE class 9 and 11 exams.

CBSE Class 9 and 11 Exams Already Being Held Offline, Or To be Conducted in Early March

A majority of CBSE class 9 and 11 students have been questioning the Government of India as to why a similar decision was not being taken for them as well. Students have also been stating that the lectures delivered to them throughout the year in the online mode were not sufficient for to give examinations online. “I am a student of class 9 from Khadijatul Kubra Girls Public School and My school is going to take offline exam and even the date sheet is out. Also, there is only one day gap in date sheet between the subjects. According to the present situation they should give at least 2 days I request CBSE board to please take our exams online,” said Mariyam to Dataquest.

“I am currently in class 11, CBSE board. The whole year we were learning through online classes and it was a task to understand such complex topics. We have been giving online exams since the beginning of the year and it has not been easy for us. Now in the end they cannot just conduct offline exams as it has been so difficult for us to learn throughout the year and we have no practice too. They are just pressurizing us and I feel so helpless right now. I suggest they should conduct online exams and have a fresh start in the 12th grade,” said Jiya another student.

CBSE Class 9 and 11 Exams Should Be Conducted Offline and Online by Giving Students a Choice

A section of students have also been requesting schools and the Government to give students a choice to give their examinations online or offline based on the situation in the area of their residence. “CBSE should give choice of online and offline exams for the children as they are not mentally prepared for the offline exams. Some children are ready to give offline, therefore, exams should be conducted both in online and offline mode so that those children who want to give offline examinations can go to school and those who want to give online can do so from their homes,” says Paridhi.

However, as per the information that is currently available, most schools are either already conducting examinations in the offline mode for class 9 and 11 students, or will be holding in the examinations in the first week of March 2021. The new session will begin for students from 1 April 2021 onwards.
