CBSE class 9 and 11 exams have already been conducted offline or are due to be held in a few days from now. The examinations are being held for Class 9 and 11 students as per an advisory issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) asking schools to complete examinations for students, and then begin the next session in April 2021. A section of students and parents have been consistently requesting online examinations citing COVID-19 infection fears, and lack of confidence in attending offline examinations.

A student from class 9 who did not want to be named and is already giving offline examinations, wrote to Dataquest saying while they were ok with giving examinations, they were not given enough gap to study for subjects. “Already I have given two exams. Three are left. But only 1-day gap is given for studying. Our school also has made our parents sign a form which is giving their full consent for the offline exams. At least it would have been better if we knew from the starting of the session that we would have to attempt offline exams in the Annual so that we could have got the chance to prepare ourselves efficiently,” they said.

“I am a class 11 CBSE student my offline exams have started from yesterday. Our school has also provided a lot of time for preparation. The minimum number of days for preparation for an exam are 2 days. I mean the date sheet is in favor but still, we are worried as we were unable to prepare and attend coaching classes due to lockdowns and Corona,” said another student.

Students Request for Those Giving CBSE Class 9 and 11 Exams Offline to be Evaluated Leniently

Since the chances of canceling CBSE class 9 and 11 exams or them being conducted online are now slim, parents and students are now hoping for seamless promotions into the next grade considering the circumstances at hand. “Whether it is online or offline, schools should not trouble kids giving CBSE class 9 and 11 exams, and they should promote them to 10th or 12th. This way, kids can focus more on facing board exams next year,” says Krishnan.

Also, now that examinations are already underway or are scheduled to be held in a few days from now, students are requesting schools for at least leniency in evaluations considering the fact that the year was tough for both educators and pupil. “Failing students should not be an option this year. Some of us have received only YouTube videos in the name of lessons. How are we supposed to pass offline examinations?” asks Sumit, a student. “If the Government is scheduling offline exams for classes between 9th and 11th we want the Government to promote us even if we would fail, thank you,” says Nishitha.
