CBSE board exams 2021 may not be canceled or postponed as being requested by millions of students across the country. The exams are scheduled to begin from 4 May amidst calls for postponement, cancellation or at least online examinations from parents, students and teachers as well. Nevertheless, if officials are to be believed then the exams will be held on the pre-decided dates and it would not be possible to cancel board exams at this point.

Why Students Want the CBSE Board Exams 2021 to Be Cancelled or Postponed?

Students and parents have been tweeting under the hashtag cancelboardexams2021 constantly for authorities to make a note of. Here is why they are requesting authorities to cancel board exams:

  • Online classes are not sufficient to clear boards: Students claim that online classes alone are not sufficient for examinations of the magnitude of boards. Some subjects like mathematics, physics, and biology require hands-on experience, they say. Therefore, it would not be possible to score well according to them.
  • Internet connectivity issues: Constant connectivity issues have made students and teachers miss classes, so some students claim that even portions have not been completed.
  • Rising COVID-19 cases: Students and parents fear getting infected in the second wave of COVID-19 wherein as many as one lakh cases are being reported each day.
  • Some families going through a tough phase due to the loss of relatives due to COVID-19: Several hundreds of students wrote to Dataquest saying they were anguished due to the loss of loved ones in the pandemic, due to which they were not able to prepare for examinations.

“I would like to point out that CBSE examination is taken up by 11,00,000 students.  Education is a right for every child and we have to understand that majority of the students are going through a lot of stress. Forget canceling but postponing the exams by a month will never harm any topper or individual when they are already so sure about their preparation. We must give an equal and fair opportunity to all,” wrote SBN Sangeetha to Dataquest.

Why CBSE Board Exams 2021 May not Be Cancelled or Postponed?

Although CBSE officials and Government authorities have already made a note of the requests, the chances of examinations getting postponed or canceled seem unlikely at the moment. In the recently held Pariksha Pe Charcha 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke only about how students can best prepare themselves for the examinations. “Marks alone never determine success or failure. What matters most is what we do in life,” he said.

Post the prime minister’s interaction with students, Dr Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal said, “Children should participate in the examinations in a stress-free and fearless manner. That's why Respected Prime Minister Guides and motivates children in the program,” while wishing all students good luck for their exams.

Furthermore, as per media reports, a CBSE spokesperson told PTI that adequate measures including increasing the number of examination centres by up to 50 percent have already been taken to ensure social distancing between exam giving students.
