Wind River Joins Open Handset Alliance



Wind River Systems, provider of Device Software Optimization, has joined the

Open Handset Alliance as a Linux commercialization partner. As a member of the

alliance, Wind River will play a critical role in helping companies bring their

mobile products to market based on Android, the platform announced by the

alliance.

Open Handset Alliance device manufacturers and other OEMs can work with Wind

River to port the platform onto their respective hardware platforms and optimize

it based on their specific requirements to deliver the greatest levels of

silicon performance, including any necessary tuning of the Linux kernel.

Accords Flight Safety Solution



Bangalore based, Accord Software and Systems has launched NexNav, a Global

Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) solution. The NexNav can be used as a primary

navigation sensor in all kinds of aircrafts. Aircraft manufacturers like Eclipse

Aviation and Avionics OEMs like Chelton Flight Systems and L3 Communications

have already adopted the NexNav solution.

NexNav is an airborne GPS (Global Positioning System) sensor that tracks

satellite signals and provides highly accurate position, velocity, and time. The

technology and product has been indigenously developed by Accord. NexNav also

tracks signals from SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) satellites to

provide information of highest level of accuracy and reliability. NexNav will

help in reducing mid-air collisions and runway incursions to a significant

extent. It also reduces greenhouse gas emission and saves fuel costs.

Xenitis Launches Sub 20k Laptop



Xenitis Infotech has rolled out laptops in the low-end price bracket at Rs
19,900 in India. The newly launched laptop is a product extension of the

existing brand Xuva. The launch of Xuva T14WN series of Laptop by Xenitis is

targeted to bring laptops within the reach of common working population. The

company expects a sizeable chunk of the desktop market to shift to this laptop.

Xuva T14WN will largely cater to low-end consumers like students and

entry-level professionals. The laptop is configured with Intel Celeron M 1.4Ghz

(360), 256 MB RAM, 80 GB HD, Combo 3-in 1 Card Reader, Intel 945GM Chip Set, and

14.1WXGA LCD.

Google Unveils Android



Google has announced the availability of Android, a new open source platform for
mobile devices, to enhance the Internet-experience on handset devices. The

company also formed an Open Handset Alliance along with HTC, Qualcomm, T-Mobile,

and Motorola. This alliance shares a common goal of fostering innovation on

mobile devices, giving consumers a far better user experience than much of what

is available on todays mobile platforms.

RIM Launches BlackBerry Solution



Research In Motion has announced the availability of BlackBerry Professional

Software, specifically designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized

businesses. The solution is based on the core functionality of the BlackBerry

Enterprise Server software used by governments and large organizations

worldwide, but it is streamlined and tailored to meet the needs of SMBs with up

to thirty wireless users. BlackBerry Professional Software is priced at $499 for

five users.

WU, GSMA Mobile Money Service



The GSM Association and Western Union (WU) have announced an agreement to

facilitate the development of cross-border mobile money transfer services. The

two are developing a commercial and technical framework that mobile operators

can use to deploy services that enable consumers to send and receive

low-denomination, high frequency money transfers using their mobile phones. The

first commercial services that make use of the framework, are expected to be

rolled out in the second quarter of 2008.

Mundu Brings IM to iPhone



Geodesic Information Systems has announced the launch of Mundu IM-iPhone

edition, specifically designed and optimized to work with the Apple Safari Web

browser on the iPhone. Mundu IM has been completely customized for the iPhone.

With Mundu IM-iPhone edition, iPhone users will have access to chat across

instant messaging (IM) services MSN, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and AIM,

Geodesic said in a statement. Mundu IM-iPhone edition adds to the mobile suite

of products including the recent announcement of Mundu IM version 4.0,

compatible with Palm, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Pocket PC, and Sony-Ericsson

devices.

Compuware Extends Multi-channel Support



Compuware has announced the availability of the new version of its
enterprise application development solution, Compuware Uniface 9.2

application platform suite. The new version extends multi-channel support to

include mobile technology. Underpinning multi-channel deployment, Uniface

9.2 also introduces extensive support for service-oriented architecture and

Web services technologies.

With the introduction of this version, Uniface

9.2 becomes one of the few development tools that can deploy applications on

virtually any platform, from the mainframe to mobile devices. In addition to

support for enterprise application deployment on multiple platforms, the

Uniface multi-channel deployment platform now also provides support for

Windows Vista and mobile devices. The new Uniface mobile capability supports

Microsoft Windows Mobile and provides for connection via the leading

wireless technologies.

Sybase 365 Launches Natural Language Service



Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase, has announced the availability of

Answers 365, a natural language service enabling SMS communication between

consumers and mobile service providers without the need for complex keywords

and multi-level, menu-driven applications. Answers 365 makes mobile services

intuitive and easy-to-use, enabling even first-time mobile users to request

information and services using their own words.

21 mn WiMax Subscribers by 2014 in India



India would have an estimated 21 mn WiMax subscribers by 2014, according

to a reportSecond Edition of India Wireless Broadband, and WiMax Market

Analysis and Forecasts 2007-2014released by telecom market research and

analyst firm Maravedis in association with Bangalore-based Tonse Telecom.

The report estimates that WiMax -enabled notebooks and handheld device

shipments would reach 14 mn units in 2014. WiMax-enabled standalone CPE

shipments would peak at 3.6 mn units in 2012.
