Broadcom is reportedly in talks to acquire VMware in a 60 billion dollar deal. The move, which was first reported by Bloomberg News, is expected to help the American chipmaker make inroads into enterprise software. Broadcom is an American designer, developer, manufacturer and global supplier of a wide range of semiconductor and infrastructure software products. Broadcom's product offerings serve the data center, networking, software, broadband, wireless, and storage and industrial markets.

Some of the recent acquisitions made by Broadcom include SaaS-based network performance monitoring solution AppNeta in December 2021, cyber risk analytics software company Bay Dynamics in December 2019, Terma Software in December 2019, information technology (IT) management software and solutions provider CA Technologies in July 2018, security software suite Symantec in June 2019, and fabless semiconductor company NetLogic Microsystems in September 2011.

VMware is a cloud computing and virtualization technology company with headquarters in California. VMware was the first commercially successful company to virtualize the x86 architecture. VMware's most notable products are its hypervisors. VMware became well known for its first type 2 hypervisor known as GSX. This product has since evolved into two hypervisor product lines: VMware's type 1 hypervisors running directly on hardware and their hosted type 2 hypervisors. VMware software provides a completely virtualized set of hardware to the guest operating system.
