This software services company from the Birla Group stable managed to reverse
the revenue slip, pressing on with its focus on the BFSI vertical–which
accounted for 54% of revenues. Energy and IT-telecom were other crucial
segments, with energy contributing 25.7% and 13% coming in from IT and telecom.

Though the company tried to firm up its offshore capabilities, 79.1% of
revenues same from onsite development. In terms of service delivery, 57.8% of
revenues came from consulting. GE–part-owner of the company, with a 20% stake–continued
to be the single-largest customer. The company nearly doubled its employee
strength from 688 to 1,290 this year–with most of the recruitment being in the
area of software development. Birlasoft now expects to scale to 1,898 employees
by the end of fiscal 2003-04.
