Entrepreneur CEO
Ashok Soota has been both a successful CEO and an entrepreneur. When in 1984 he
took over as the president of Wipro Infotech, it was only a Rs 7 crore company.
When he left in 1999, it was a Rs 1,000 crore giant, and the largest publicly
listed IT company in India. His second innings as entrepreneur when he started
Mindtree Consulting has been equally successful. Not only is the Rs 449 crore
Mindtree a financial success with an IPO planned in 2007, but it has been
recognized as one of the five most admired knowledge enterprises in India by
Teleos, in association with The KNOW Network. Even as CII president during
2002-03 and now as a member of the Advisory Council of World Intellectual
Property Organization in Geneva, Soota has been a shining beacon for the entire
IT industry.
