As business AI continues to mature in 2024, companies will use greater number of LLMs: SAP

Walter Sun, Global Head of Artificial Intelligence, SAP, had an interesting take regarding AI for 2024. He made some predictions. They are:

• Generative AI for business will move from hype to reality in 2024. Customers have always required relevant and reliable business results. That means they’ll need to find ways of combining generative AI with their business-specific data. These data are notoriously complex and often sit in multiple systems, so there is a high risk of losing valuable context when they are extracted and combined. Since generative AI is only as valuable as the data it draws from, companies that can best combine their own business data with generative AI to provide the strongest context to the models will have a significant leg up on the competition.
  
  
• As business AI continues to mature in 2024, companies will use a greater number of LLMs. When you get your oil changed in your car, you don’t typically ask for a specific brand of oil filter. Instead, you trust that the mechanic will give you the one that is best for your vehicle. Similarly, smart companies will work with trusted technology providers that utilize the best LLM for a specific task, optimizing accuracy while considering the compute cost trade-off on topics such as content creation, code creation, question and answering, or summarization.
  
  
• As generative AI continues to change the business landscape in 2024, the demand for specialized Generative AI Prompt Engineers will continue to grow. Just as a sommelier is better at describing and pairing wines than the average person, a generative AI prompt engineer has expertise at prompting LLMs to achieve better business results that are relevant, reliable, and responsible. This presents a great opportunity for employees to gain valuable new skills within their organization and isn’t limited to only expert coders as analysis has shown a broad range of kills correlate to good prompt writing.
