Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “Artificial Intelligence is more profound than fire, electricity, or the internet.” His words certainly make sense owing to AI’s contributions to the world, climate change, space exploration, or developing cancer treatments. The way AI enables machines to make decisions faster with more accuracy than a human mind is truly extraordinary. It indicates the power of AI and how it can unlock unimaginable possibilities in life. With this backdrop in mind, here’s a list of top tech trends that businesses must focus on and invest in:

Creative artificial intelligence

AI has been game-changing across various industries. But nobody would have imagined it from a creative perspective. Well, it’s likely to become a reality now! South Africa has granted the first patent to an ingenious AI system called DABUS, which simulates human brainstorming and creates new inventions. Although it has attracted massive backlash from intellectual property experts, creative machines would see more adoption by businesses across sectors. The world has already seen tremendous adoption of AI over the last two years; 2022 may see more patents granted to this new form of AI.

Embedded AI

Also known as ‘AI inside,’ embedded AI is the application of machine and deep learning in software that is embedded at the core of the device – from architecture to operations or from cloud-level to device-level processing of AI tasks, data and results. Currently, it is being used in areas like grocery delivery and restaurant supply-chain optimization to bridge the business-to-customer divide and ensure seamless user experiences. Majorly, it helps transform operations by reducing the latency between insights, decisions, and outcomes. In 2022, we expect to see more businesses - mainly traditional – adapting to the AI-first approach by spending more money on AI-inside.

AI and Metaverse

Metaverse has become a hot topic since Mark Zuckerberg made it public. He recently announced this concept and revealed his vision of creating a new world by merging virtual reality with the social foundations of Facebook. It is believed that the shift to the online world during the pandemic is associated with the creation of metaverse. More and more people became familiar with working, shopping, socializing, and whatnot – all digitally. So, with metaverse, the idea is to enable people to perform all these activities in a seamless digital environment with more immersive experiences – in short, to have a moment! 2022 is envisioned to witness more development around this concept.

Web 3.0

When the internet came into being, it allowed people to go online. Over the years, it evolved and got better, equipped with more advanced features, making the overall browsing experience seamless for users. Now, it’s time for Web 3.0, which is to make the internet decentralized and away from the hold of giants like Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. It means there will be more privacy to users as nobody will be peeking into their personal lives. In a more straightforward sense, Web 3.0 will take us to a decentralized online world based on the pillars of blockchain -- not any central gatekeeper, but users themselves. We are already living in the era of advanced technology, and in 2022, Web 3.0 is likely to further this digital journey.

Quantum Computing

If Web 3.0 is a new internet, quantum computing will be a whole new computer. Experts say that quantum computers will be based on quantum physics that will augment the computing power of an entire device – it will play a pivotal role in initiating and expanding the metaverse. While a classical computer can simulate the structure of a water molecule, quantum devices are believed to be more accurate and can simulate more complex molecules. A better example would be Antman from the Marvel Universe. This innovation won’t just help us address problems more quickly, but it will also enable us to tackle and find answers to the questions that have been impossible so far. In 2022, the world might see more progress in this space.

In closing

The pandemic has accelerated tech adoption across various businesses. It has also given researchers and innovators more reasons to discover/invent advancements that can transform the world into something beyond better. The innovations above are a testimony. Rest, only time will tell!
