This Mumbai-based IT education major and software services
company slips 11 notches, from #10 rank to #21 this year. One of the leading
players in the IT education segment, Aptech provides the entire gamut of
software training services, starting from the very basic to the high-end,
including courses on graphics. The company also provides software services in
the area of Internet and e-commerce. It has launched IT training on the Net and
an ASP portal, BconnectB.com. Aptech reported revenues of Rs 466.34 crore in the
year ended December 2000, 27% higher than the previous year. Net profit spurted
60% to Rs 81.54 crore, while gross block was Rs 269.34 crore, up 79%. Aptech
retained the #8 position in sales, while being ranked at #11in profits and #7 in
gross block. Its modest growth rate in revenues, profits and gross block was
largely responsible for the fall in ranking. Aptech is ranked at #42 in sales
growth, #30 in profit growth and #18 in gross block growth. The company is
currently restructuring operations by hiving off software services into a
separate company and merging it with group entity Hexaware. Post-restructuring,
the software services and education would become two different entities trading.
The move is aimed at better valuation and increased focus on software services.
The company raised $75 million via the GDR route and acquired US-based Specsoft
Consulting.
