Anup Purohit, CIO, Wipro, stood before an audience of technology enthusiasts, delivering a thought-provoking address at the VMware Explore 2023 Singapore. He began by acknowledging a common predicament that resonates not only within the confines of Wipro's offices but also in boardrooms across the corporate world – the challenge of managing cloud resources effectively.

Anup emphasized the various challenges faced in the boardrooms regarding cloud management. He likened the cloud to a double-edged sword, highlighting the need for responsible use. An important problem he addressed was the lack of two critical skills among cloud administrators: understanding contractual obligations to hyper-scalars and managing financial obligations.

He also pointed out that the knee-jerk reaction to this dilemma often involved contemplating a return to on-premises infrastructure or a shift to private clouds. However, he believed that the real issue lay deeper, advocating for an "ontology of nominal technology." He stressed the importance of responsible and efficient utilization of cloud resources. To tackle this issue, Wipro had partnered with VMware to create an emulation layer that streamlined the management of multiple hyper-scale cloud providers, making it easier to meet security and compliance standards, said Anup.

Anup highlighted how automation, driven by VMware technology, simplified life not only for Wipro's internal teams but also for its customers. “The innovative solutions we have created with VMware thus far enable enterprises to accelerate the development and deployment of more secure modern apps and empower their global workforce while dramatically simplifying the management of a multi-cloud infrastructure. Our recent expansion of partnership with VMware will allow customers to accelerate their cloud journey driving innovation, resilience and agility,” said Anup.

Anup, as a CIO, worked on aligning business models with technology and simplifying various aspects of the business process, from lead generation to revenue recognition.

Anup also stated that collaborating with VMware, Wipro strengthened its foundation with SAP ERP, established a single source of truth on the cloud, and enabled data-driven decisions with tools like Power BI and Tableau. Their goal was to empower the business in decision-making, improve the digital seller experience, enhance knowledge management, and streamline the fulfillment cycle, ultimately transitioning from an enabling partner to a driving partner in the business.
