Amit Agrawal, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1993 batch of the Chhattisgarh cadre, has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Monday. Agrawal has taken charge after after Saurabh Garg, the previous CEO, was appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in April.
Amit Agrawal, a graduate from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous positions in both the central and state governments of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, said a release from the Government of India.
Before taking up the position of CEO at UIDAI, Agrawal served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Prior to that, he held the posts of Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
During his tenure in Chhattisgarh, Agrawal held significant roles as the Finance Secretary and was responsible for overseeing the Departments of Commercial Tax and Technical Education in the state government, among other important responsibilities.
With his diverse background and extensive experience in key government positions, Amit Agrawal is poised to lead UIDAI in its mission to provide unique identification numbers and enhance the digital infrastructure of India.
