Amazon Launches Amazon Air in India

Amazon, popular American multinational technology company focusing on e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence, has launched Amazon Air in India. Amazon is the first e-commerce company in India to launch the dedicated air cargo network. The launch took place in Hyderabad on 20 January 2023.

KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Admin and Urban Development, Industry and Commerce, Information Technology Electronics and Communications, launched the service in Telangana. The company has chosen Telangana to launch Amazon Air outside North America and Europe. At the launch event, listing out Telangana's achievements in Aerospace sector, Minister KTR said that it won the Best State Award for Aerospace from the Ministry of Civil Aviation three times in a row. He further went on to add that Hyderabad was ranked as the most cost-effective aerospace city in the World by FT FDA global rankings.

“Telangana’s growth and success are closely linked to the expansion of the logistics sector including its air cargo infrastructure. Air cargo traffic in Hyderabad witnessed a 35% growth in volumes during 2021,” said the minister.

Amazon Air, which was earlier known as Amazon Prime Air, is a cargo airline operating exclusively to transport Amazon packages. The primary function of Amazon Air is to transport Amazon packages from distant fulfillment centers that are outside of Amazon's local ground linehaul network for a specific area.
