  • User receives a message on WhatsApp that reads “Amazon International Women’s Day 2022 Giveaway - More than 10,000 free products”.
  • When the user clicks on the message, they are asked to take a simple survey with four questions such as do you know Amazon, would you recommend the platform to your friends, your age group and how you would rate the platform.
  • Once the user completes the survey, they are redirected to a page that says their IP address is valid to receive the gifts.

  • Users will then be asked to pick a few gift boxes. While the first box is usually empty, users are promised a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in the next box.
  • After that, two conditions are placed for the user to receive the gift: One is that they must inform five groups or twenty people about this offer and the second is that they must enter their address and complete the registration.
  • What makes the message seemingly genuine is that there are several comments from other users on the page that say “I thought this was a scam, but I received the gift within one week”.
  • If users try to press the back button or refresh the link, the page attempts to download a software on the mobile phone.
