Amazon India has provided an update on the commitments it made as a part of its dedication to India. The company has collectively digitalized over 6.2 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), fostering approximately $8 billion in total e-commerce exports. Alongside this, it has generated more than 1.3 million direct and indirect job opportunities within India to date. Amazon's initial commitment included the goal to digitize 10 million MSMEs, facilitate $20 billion in combined e-commerce exports, and establish 2 million jobs in India by 2025.
Industries across which Amazon has created jobs in India
In the last one year, Amazon helped create about 1.4 lakh direct and indirect jobs across industries such as:
- IT.
- E-commerce.
- Logistics.
- Manufacturing.
- Content creation.
- Skill development.
Manish Tiwary, Country Manager India Consumer Business, Amazon India said that as the company continues to work with lakhs of micro-entrepreneurs, small businesses and startups across the country, it remains committed to bringing new tools, technology and innovation that will unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of Indian businesses, boost exports from the country and help create jobs at scale. “We strongly believe that technology and mobile internet will continue to positively impact India’s economic growth, and we see Amazon playing a larger role in the country’s digital transformation and a modern, thriving digital economy,” he added.
Indian exporters on Amazon Global Selling are on track to cross $8 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports
Amazon's attention is fixed on establishing a resilient infrastructure aimed at assisting Indian enterprises in accessing markets across over 200 countries and territories. Their endeavor includes fostering global brands originating from India and facilitating export expansion via their Global Selling initiative. This program is currently experiencing swift traction, boasting a roster of over 125,000 exporters.
These exporters are poised to surpass a total of $8 billion in combined exports by the conclusion of 2023. Notably, the Amazon Global Selling program achieved its initial five billion dollars in cumulative e-commerce exports over a span of seven years, and the subsequent three billion dollars are projected to be realized within approximately 18 months.
