Amazon announces five new fulfillment centers in India to meet rapid growth

As part of its ongoing commitment to continually enhance services to customers and sellers on India's largest online store www.amazon.in, Amazon Seller Services India announced its plans to open five more Fulfillment Centers (FCs) in Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon). With the additional storage capacity and its two existing Fulfillment Centers on the outskirts of Mumbai and Bangalore, Amazon has almost doubled its total storage capacity to over half million square feet, offering world-class fulfillment services to thousands of retailers and small and medium businesses (SMBs) across the country.

This investment is part of Amazon's continued and relentless focus on enhancing online shopping experience for consumers in India and enabling SMBs to get a scalable and robust national platform using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). The new facility will provide existing and new retailers from both South & North India closer access to Amazon's world-class fulfillment capabilities. Seller of all sizes will be able to take advantage of this new, modern, multilevel, secure facilities equipped with Amazon's world-class and state-of-the-art warehousing systems and processes to stock and store millions of products of all sizes across several categories using Fulfillment by Amazon for immediate shipment to customers.

Customers in these states and nearby areas can expect broader selection across categories available for immediate shipment and eligible for Amazon's Next-Day and Same-Day Guaranteed delivery services.

"Sellers have greatly appreciated our Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, a pay-as-you-go service and a key feature of our e-commerce platform. A Q1 2014 survey conducted with Sellers on Amazon.in who have used FBA showed 85% of respondents reporting a sales increase since joining FBA and of these 40% of respondents reporting a sales increase of at least 30%. With the opening of new FCs across five Indian states comprising of Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan & Gujarat, we will enable many more SMEs in India to take advantage of this service and help them expand their online business. We will continue to do the heavy lifting on behalf of sellers so that they can focus on providing our customers with vast selection at competitive prices and in turn sell more and earn more money," adds Amit Deshpande, Director & GM Seller Services, Amazon India.

The Fulfillment Center in Chennai is already operational and the remaining four FCs will be operational next month.

Amazon has created one of the most advanced fulfillment networks in the world and sellers in India have been benefitting from Amazon's expertise in fulfillment and reliable nationwide delivery. Orders fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for Cash on Delivery, Free Delivery promotions, and Guaranteed Next-Day and Same-Day delivery (in eligible pin codes).

Sellers save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the services they avail from Amazon. Sellers always have the flexibility to choose the number of products they want to have fulfilled by Amazon and scale according to their business requirements.
