Amazon Alexa Stops Working As AWS Goes Down, Services Now Restored

A massive AWS outage affected a number of services across the globe, and the downtime also had an impact of Amazon Alexa and Amazon Music. Several users took to social media platforms to express the difficulties they were facing without AWS services. The outage reportedly lasted for about four to five hours, and the services have now been fully restored.

“Is anyone else experiencing errors with their Alexa/Echo devices?? My skills such as Spotify or any other skill aren't working,” says a user on Twitter. “Same here called customer services and told me they can only answer general questions which was no help and also mentions about trouble shooting AWS Support. I can’t control my lights and only from direct to the app and my lights are already link to the app,” says another user.

Apart from Amazon Alexa and Music, other popular websites such as OkCupid, Delta Airlines and McDonald were also affected.

DownDetector displayed reports from thousands of user who were facing issues with their AWS hosted services. “AWS is down which is translating to half of web3 not working. So much for decentralization,” said one user on Twitter.

AWS acknowledged the issue saying “We're currently working on our customer service systems. We're very sorry and we expect to have our systems running again soon. We're able to answer general questions; but if you need help with your account or an order, please try back later.”
