Air India is reportedly accepting bookings for domestic flights from 4 May 2020,and for international flights from 1 June 2020. These reports started coming in after Air India flashed a message on its official website saying “In the light of ongoing global health concerns, we have currently stopped accepting bookings on all domestic flights for travel until 3rd May 2020, and on all international flights for travel until 31st May 2020.”
“Booking for select domestic flights for travel from 4th May 2020 and flights for travel 1st June 2020 onwards are open,” adds the website, which has given rise to speculations on booking being accepted. Viewers need to note that the bookings were always open after 3 May 2020, as, for now, the extension of the lockdown has been announced by the Government of India until only 3 May 2020.
The message on the Air India website also adds that “the situation is being constantly reviewed and we shall keep you updated.” In fact, it is not just Air India, other airline carriers such as Air Asia, IndiGo, and so on seem to be accepting bookings after 4 May 2020.
Even websites like Yatra.com and MakeMyTrip, display information of flights available after 4 May. Nevertheless, this may not necessarily mean that the lockdown is being lifted after 4 May, as airlines were accepting bookings until 30 April also prior to the government's decision to extend the lockdown further.
So far, there is no official statement from Air India or the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the matter. Viewers are advised to wait for official communication from government sources so as to decide their future course of action.
