At the 17th Huawei Global Analyst Summit held in Shenzhen, China, Yu Haitao, VP of Huawei Packet Core Network Product Line, delivered a keynote speech, providing insights into Huawei's latest 5G core network strategy. Following are excerpts from his speech.

"As we embark on the journey through 5G and usher in a new era in business, Huawei is dedicated to building the 5G core network based on the CORE factors: Cloud Native, one core, real-time operation, and edge computing. Based on 5G Deterministic Networking (5GDN), the 5G core network will deliver innovative service solutions including 5G MEC, network slicing and 5G LAN, providing differentiated network capabilities and a deterministic networking experience.

"3GPP R16 standards will be locked or frozen soon, and an increasing number of vertical industries will benefit from 5G networks. Carriers are accelerating the deployment of 5G SA networks worldwide, empowering the digital transformation of industry. Digital transformation calls for 5G networks to serve as differentiated networks with orchestratable capabilities, dedicated networks with guaranteed data security, and self-service (DIY) networks with autonomous management.

"To address such requirements, Huawei proposed the innovative 5GDN concept, aiming to unlock the value of 5G B2B with industry partners. 5GDN leverages 5G network resources to build manageable, verifiable, and deterministic virtual private mobile networks, offering customers a predictable and differentiated service experience. In practice, Huawei will help carriers provide three powerful solutions – 5G MEC, network slicing, and 5G LAN – through the 5GDN-driven "CORE" network.

"Huawei and industry peers established the 5G Deterministic Networking Alliance (5GDNA) last year to boost the 5G B2B ecosystem. To date, more than 100 organizations have joined the 5GDNA and formed five vertical industry work groups. Joint efforts have been made on more than 30 research themes. The 5GDNA has proposed building an open-source 5G MEC platform and is devoted to unifying standards for edge computing.

"Huawei collaborates with industry partners to promote a mature and thriving 5G ecosystem. Huawei and industry partners have applied the 5GDN successfully in a wide range of fields, encompassing multimedia, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). They have also showcased projects in many vertical industries like smart ports, smart grids, smart manufacturing, and AR/VR (cultural tourism and advertising).

"Due to these outstanding 5GDN practices, Huawei and its partners have won four placements in first place at the second "Zhanfang Cup" 5G application contest, which was held under the guidance of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Huawei released the 5GDN Industry White Paper with other 5GDNA members, and is actively driving the development of 3GPP specifications."

Huawei has been dedicated to building well-rounded core networks for years, and has made significant contributions to industry development. These efforts and achievements are widely acknowledged by the industry. In the report "5G Mobile Core: Competitive Landscape Assessment" published by GlobalData, Huawei earned the leadership position for two consecutive years. In addition, Huawei won the "Best 5G Core Network Technology Award" at the 5G World Summit in 2019 organized by Informa Tech. Huawei will continue to join hands with industry partners to promote industry consensus, strengthen the industry ecosystem, and accelerate industry development.
