Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has named Linda Yaccarino as the new Twitter CEO. Yaccarino is a veteran media executive who has spent the past 20 years at NBCUniversal, where she most recently served as chairman of global advertising and partnerships.
Elon Musk recently tweeted the announcement saying: “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! Linda Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design and new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.” Musk’s role will now transition to executive chair and chief executive officer overseeing product, software and sysops.
The last Twitter CEO was Parag Agrawal who was fired by Musk after he took over the platform. Yaccarino takes over Twitter at a time of significant change for the company. Musk has been a vocal critic of Twitter's moderation policies, and he has said that he wants to make the platform a more open and free-wheeling forum for speech.
“Thank you Elon Musk! I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!” tweeted Yaccarino after the announcement was made public.
