32. Rolta India: Geo-Spatial Player

Mumbai-based company grew 38%, from Rs 257 crore to Rs 354 crore, in the period from April 2000 to March 2001. However, the company has a January-December fiscal year, during which period it grew by 38%–from Rs 184 crore to Rs 254

crore. During the same period, gross profits grew by 67% while net profits rose by 51%, from Rs 60 crore to Rs 91

crore. The company has one of the highest operating margins in the industry. In the period under review, Rolta’s margins grew from 43% to 54%.

The IT solutions and services company has traditionally been focused on geo-spatial solutions in the AM, FM and GIS application areas. Domestic revenues continued to be the mainstay of the company, accounting for 78% of total revenues, up 18% over the previous year’s 60%. Nearly half the domestic revenues came from the government sector. The group has five subsidiaries, with two being in Saudi Arabia and West Asia. The ensuing year should see Rolta Europe, another group company, become a subsidiary of Rolta India, while another company is expected to be set up in Germany.
