For most people who don’t know this company too well, this would come as a surprise. It’s a low decibel company, small by call center industry standards and generally not very well known. But Bangalore based HTMT stormed its way into 2nd position with an impressive performance on almost every single parameter. When one considers the fact that the only company that did better is ten times its size and a lot older–there is a better understanding of this feat.

For a company of its size and branding HTMT topped satisfaction rankings on two key parameters that are often the pain points for most companies–salaries and appraisals. In addition, it had the highest score in the industry on overall satisfaction though composite satisfaction was relatively low at #7. Other key strengths–employee satisfaction on people (rank #3), and training (rank #3).

The company has among the youngest employees in the industry with 90% of the respondents being graduates, diploma/certificate holders or 12th class pass students. This normally implies a completely different set of employee expectations and best practices to deal with them. For instance, along with salaries and benefits, one of they key reasons employees said they joined the company was the fact that “education level did not matter”. That can sometimes work against a company as employees decide at some point–sooner rather than later mostly–to get back to school. Higher education, as a result, was also the main reason why most HTMT employees said they would likely leave the company.

Another key issue, a younger workforce is often less equipped to handle high levels of stress. As a result, the company ranked 2nd on the statement “I am very stressed here”, showed high incidence of work-related stress factors including from things like work load and travel timings, and had the highest incidence of sleeping disorders.

That said though, employees seemed among the most satisfied both professionally and personally, placed a lot of faith in the company’s leadership and immediate managers and ranked HTMT next only to Daksh on the statement “I would definitely recommend this company to a close friend of mine”. With so much going for it, the rest one hopes, will be tackled with time.
