The total scores for HP and Compaq could well redefine the term neck
and neck. But for a difference of 0.1, HP could have missed the No 2 slot.
The HP performance has been good, with no dramatic dips. However, the
company has a low score on ESOPs and overseas assignment opportunities,
affecting the overall performance.
Besides, there are no complaints on the salary front. In fact, HP
employees say company image as well as compensation and benefits were the
prime reasons for their joining. The company is rated high on work culture
as well. In the HR survey based on the questionnaire answered by the
company, HP rates work climate and organization culture as the factor most
important to employees, followed by compensation and HR services.
HP has not rated company image as one of the top five factors important
to employees, but it need not worry on the image front as it is the
sixth-most preferred IT employer in India. Another feather in the cap is
its highest retention score among the 21 companies surveyed. The company
scores 4.4 on a scale of 10 for average tenure and is second only to TCS’
outstanding score of 10. At five years, the average tenure of marketing
professional in the company is almost double the industry average. The
tenure of its technical professionals (3.5 years) is also on the higher
side. However, the tenure of senior managers (also 5 years) is just below
average.
