Truecaller has expanded its call recording and artificial intelligence (AI)--powered transcription functionality to India. The function was first offered in the United States in June 2023, but less than a year later, the business is expanding to other regions. Users of Android and iOS will be able to record and analyse incoming and outgoing calls using artificial intelligence. It is being added as a premium feature and will only be available to the app's paid subscribers.

Truecaller: To allow users to record calls within the app

Truecaller announced that this functionality will allow users to record calls within the app, eliminating the need to use third-party software. Furthermore, the company has used AI to provide transcription capability to deliver a complete transcription of recorded calls once they have concluded. Interestingly, the app previously offered call recording but had to suspend it after Google put limits on apps that used an API created for accessibility features to record calls.

The call recording feature works differently on iOS and Android. The iPhone operating system is more limiting in terms of third-party call recording. Therefore, Truecaller users must go to the Search page and tap Record a call, which will require the app to dial a recording line, which the firm claims is a specific number they provided. After that, users can call the person they want to record the call for and select the option to merge the two calls. Recording will begin once the call is connected, and the user will receive a push notification. The app's creator indicated that all recorded calls are saved locally on the device; however, users can generate a backup on iCloud.

Truecaller dialler has a separate recording button that may start and stop recording

On Android, the method is relatively simple. The Truecaller dialler has a separate recording button that may start and stop recording. If the user is not using the app's dialer, they will see a floating record button. Once the call has concluded, both platforms will receive a push notice indicating when the transcription is complete. Transcriptions are accessible in both English and Hindi. Users can play recordings, rename them, delete undesired ones, and share them with other programs.

It should be mentioned that the Google Pixel 8 series, compatible models from previous generations, and Samsung smartphones with Galaxy AI already offer a built-in capability that transcribes calls in real-time. However, individuals who do not have such a function on their smartphone can use Truecaller for a fee. It is one of the app's paid features. Therefore, users must subscribe to Truecaller's Premium plan. In India, paid tiers start at Rs. 75 per month and Rs. 529 per year.
