Cisco with Karnataka Govt Initiates to Train 40000 Individuals in Cybersecurity

Cisco to train 40000 individuals in Cybersecurity

Cisco, a prominent global technology leader, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka Innovation Technology Society (KITS), Department of Electronics, IT, Bt, Government of Karnataka. This collaboration aims to provide cybersecurity training to 40,000 individuals and enhance cyber awareness. This initiative primarily focuses on gender diversity, with women comprising half of the trained workforce,  and addressing the escalating demand for cybersecurity expertise amidst an evolving threat landscape.

As per Cisco’s Cybersecurity Readiness Index, 90% of Indian organizations anticipate disruptions due to cybersecurity incidents in the coming 12 to 24 months. Additionally, an Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) report highlights that 40% of cybersecurity teams in Indian organizations are understaffed, accentuating the pressing need for skill enhancement. This collaboration signifies a shared dedication to equip students with job-ready cybersecurity competencies to tackle future security challenges effectively.

Furthermore, the collaboration encompasses a 'Train the Trainers' initiative, aimed at empowering college faculties with the requisite knowledge and skills to foster a robust cyber ecosystem. This program also prioritizes raising cyber awareness among citizens to strengthen their defenses and enable safer online practices.

Our collaboration with the Karnataka Innovation Technology Society and the Government of Karnataka Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity underscores our commitment to empowering disadvantaged sections of society, including students, teachers, and senior citizens, with critical cybersecurity skills and awareness to protect against threats and be safer online. Through this engagement, we will be imparting cybersecurity skilling for 40,000 individuals, aiming for 50% of the beneficiaries to be women’’, said Dr Ekroop Caur, IAS, Department of Electronics, IT, Bt, Government of Karnataka while commenting on the announcement.

Furthermore, Cisco will partner with the Government of Karnataka Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity to advance cybersecurity awareness and skill development among students and professionals. Cisco will play a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum by offering cybersecurity courses through the Cisco Networking Academy, a renowned program recognized for bridging IT skills to job opportunities globally. Additionally, Cisco will host webinar sessions and knowledge workshops for students, covering a wide array of courses spanning from fundamental to advanced levels.
