New technologies are overpowering traditional infrastructure

Sanjay Motwani, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Raritan speaks to DATAQUEST on the Data Center market and the opportunities. Excerpts.

How do you see the current India market dynamics for data centers – can you indicate the market size and opportunities?

According to Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), India will be a $4.5 billion data center market by 2018 and will reach $7 billion by 2020 at a growth rate of 23%. Increased adoption of mobility, big data and software designed networking by Indian enterprises, coupled with proliferation of the internet and government’s focus on digitization have led to the growing need for data centers in the country. According to Gartner, sectors like Telecom, IT, BFSI Ecommerce and Government have fueled the rise of intelligent data centers.

Can you talk about the leading trends shaping the datacenter market?

Today the focus is not only on designing intelligent infrastructures, but also optimizing the existing equipment. New technologies are overpowering traditional infrastructure with an accelerating shift from traditional data centers to colocation, cloud based and green data centers. Growing pressure on power, scarcity and sky-rocketing prices of real estate, complexity in data center management, the need to rationalize costs of managing data and above all to improve the environmental credentials are driving this shift. With India becoming the preferred destination for data centers, there is an urgent need for the right policies and reforms in the IT infrastructure industry that will spearhead India amongst the top players in the global IT Infrastructure Market.

What is your company’s strategy and play in this space?

With technological developments and the ever growing data needs, Indian CIO’s and data center managers are dealing with a situation of constant change. Thus, the need of the hour is solutions that help them manage this situation of ‘constant change’ with solutions that ‘give them greater control’. Raritan’s strategy is to provide solutions in the market that help increase data center efficiency, productivity and improve reliability.

Can you talk about data center complexities?

Today, with the rising power and real estate costs, CIO’s and data center managers are under the constant pressure to reduce their capex and opex.  The development of colocation and cloud along with legacy data centers has led to a hybrid data center environment that makes management even more complex. Raritan provides a centralized remote management system that is easily deployable, platform agnostic and scalable for managing your datacenter from anywhere and anytime.

Large mission critical data centers like Amazon and eBay are increasingly adopting Raritan solutions that are especially built for intelligent data centers, hybrid data centers and high density data centers.
